Support to Cardiology
The cardiac anaesthesia service at Cardiocentro Ticino also takes care of critical cardiopathic patients undergoing angioplasty via cardiac catheterisation. Anaesthesia is used only in particularly severe cases, before coronarography or reopening of coronary vessel, in order not to alter the vital equilibrium of the patient. Primary angioplasty is, in point of fact, the best treatment for patients with heart impairment.
The Cath Lab activity – ensured 24 hours out of 24 – is extremely important, since infarction prognosis is subject to prompt reopening of the coronary vessel. After being fully and carefully treated, these patients are put in the Intensive Care unit, where constant support and care is given to the patient’s vital organs.
